A Pig Headed Illustration

Here is something you don't see everyday, a portrait of a pig! This is the latest painting from my drawing board. Love the look on the face of this animal, such a knowing look... an all-wise pig. I have uploaded the underdrawing as well as the finished painting for you to see. Enjoy. PS.

Lumix GF2 Snaps (test)

I just picked up a new camera for my travels. The Lumix GF2 with interchangeable lenses. Had a play in the garden yesterday wandering around with the new toy. Imported the photos into the iPad to edit a little, crop here, colour change there... I'm impressed with the speed of the camera and the quality of the images from the f2.0 lens is quite remarkable for a consumer camera. This will definitely be going everywhere on my travels. I mean, I love making pictures with my iPhone and hipstamatic but I am missing my bad boy DSLR while away so this is my lightweight substitute!

Business Cards - with QR barcode

I have just designed a new business card over at moo.com 

Great website and card design interface, I highly recommend it... will see what the cards come back like...

A cool thing though, and some of you are probably wondering... what's the weird barcodey thing on there... well it's a QR code, you may have seen them around the net and in magazines and print ads, basically if you have a camera phone like the iPhone, you can use an app like QR Reader and as if by magic, it will take you on the web to a special place!... very clever, and I love it!

Hopefully Apple will integrate QR reading without needing an app in the future... that would be good.

Official poster for Indiana Jones and the Search for the Lost Idol: illustrated by Paul Shipper

Director Fran Casanova writes about working with me on the poster design for his film.

Paul Shipper , English illustrator based in New Zealand, has been commissioned to conduct the official poster for my personal tribute to Indiana Jones ,  George Lucas , Steven Spielberg and all the fantastic team behind this wonderful saga.

This short, like the previous three, is made without the aid of any producer without a professional team.But there has been a work in which every detail is taken care (history, atmosphere, assembly, rhythm, etc.). So that the final result got to convey the essence of the saga.And just these indications were that I forwarded to Paul at the time of creating the poster, as I was concerned that the style of it was consistent with the original posters.

Working with Paul has been very rewarding and comfortable as that from the beginning understood very well connected and is exactly what you want.He knew before his work, including illustrations she had made about Indiana Jones, and thought it was the best person to do so.After get in touch with him, I took not only the pleasant surprise that I knew my job but also that he was delighted to work with me.

Paul has done a fantastic job and this is the result.

I would also add that the composer Oscar Navarro is about to finish the music for the short and soon we will enjoy this new adventure on the Internet.

The Illustrated Poster. Is it making a comeback?

The comeback of the Illustrated Poster, may be sooner than you think... Let's hope so, with this small influx of traditionally illustrated posters, it seems that there is a buzz in the air, especially in Hollywood, and I for one am very pleased to see these paintings surface on the internet... some official, some not perhaps, but all have the spirit of the film they intend to promote at the forefront of their mind.

Celebrating 30 Years of Indiana Jones

Raiders of the Lost Ark celebrates it's 30th Anniversary this weekend, thats right, 30 years...! The film was released on June 12th 1981... and to coincide with this momentous occasion I am fortunate to have been working on a couple of Indiana Jones pieces in the last few weeks. One is an illustration of Indy for the IndyCast website which is due to launch very soon, and the other is a film poster for the short film directed by fellow IndyFan, Fran Casanova. 

I regard working on the Indiana Jones property as a true privilege and even though both of these jobs were not officially sanctioned LucasFilm assignments, I approached them both with the same amount of enthusiasm and quality of draftsmanship associated with the Indiana Jones franchise so the art looks as official as it can possibly be.

Indiana Jones swings into action.

You may have already seen this finished artwork on the blog already, but I have put together a short video clip of the art taking shape from drawing, to painting, to finishing. Showing you the process of two days of work in under 30 seconds.

The IndyCast

Ed Dolista approached me about contributing to the new look stand alone site hosted by the ForceCast. I was very excited to be working working with them on this. It brought back fond memories of working with Gilles Verschuere on the Raider.Net web page illustrations many moons ago.

Indiana Jones and the Search for the Lost Idol

Fran Casanova has been making a name as a film director and huge Indy Fan by creating this short film about an artefact that we might remember from 30 years ago...remember the gold fertility idol from Raiders?...Indy did all the hard work obtaining it, dodging poison darts, swinging across a bottomless pit and being chased by a giant boulder, only to be pipped at the post by his arch rival René Belloq. Well, you will be pleased to know that Indy is on the search for it again in this short film...

The film poster I created for the advertising of the film is hopefully accepted by the audience as a piece reminiscent of the previous film posters, so it looks in-keeping with what we are familiar with, this was something of importance to Fran as he wanted the poster to say Indiana Jones as much as possible, especially as the Actor playing Indy isn't Harrison Ford this time round!
